I wanted to provide you with an update regarding Theft - (shoplifting, personal, other), which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey. A man has been jailed after he stole meat worth more than £400 from a shop in Basingstoke.
Shaun Bowers, 31, of Worting Road, Basingstoke, stole the meat from Tesco Express in the town centre on three separate occasions in January.
Bowers pleaded guilty to three counts of theft from a shop and was jailed for a total of eight weeks at Basingstoke Magistrates Court on Monday 2 February.
PC Tom Hickman-Tait, from the Basingstoke Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: "Our message is clear – shoplifting in Basingstoke will not be tolerated.
"The actions of shoplifters make a huge difference to businesses as they have to recover the costs which have been lost. This means shops will have to typically increase prices, which has a huge impact on the wider public.
"I hope this highlights that our officers take all reports of shoplifting extremely seriously and I'm pleased to see that Shaun Bowers has been held accountable for his actions."
